Ms. T. Fakelastname
Manager
Imaginary Family Resource Center
000 Any Street
Madeuptown, State Zip Code

I recently met with your human resource specialist, Sam Phonyname. He noted that you are currently seeking an early learning specialist at your Madeuptown center and suggested I submit my resume for the position.

My background includes extensive experience in developing educational programs for and teaching both children and adults. Through my work as a teacher and a workshop facilitator, I have had the opportunity to work with students with special needs as well as ESL students and clients; I truly enjoy developing effective learning strategies to address all students' needs. Throughout my career, my approach to education has been creative; I particularly enjoy developing multifaceted programs to engage all students and meet group as well as individual needs. My professional experience is supported by a solid academic background including a Bachelor of Education Degree as well as a Bachelor of Arts Degree.

I am currently a member of the Imaginary Family Resource Center and have used the resources at both the Madeuptown and the Anytown centers. As a new parent, the programs, ongoing support and friendship that I found at the Imaginary Family Resource Center have been absolutely invaluable. I truly respect the values of the Imaginary Family Resource Center and feel the center provides exceptional, family-centered services. I also strongly believe in the value of providing respectful and exceptional client service and would welcome the opportunity to be involved in providing support to parents, caregivers and children who visit the Imaginary Family Resource Center.

Thank you for taking the time to review my resume. I am available at your convenience for an interview.

Sincerely,

(sign here!)

Did you notice that Susan Anybody mentioned in her cover letter that she was a new parent? This is not typical. While conventions and laws vary around the world, in most situations, is is not advisable to include this type of personal information in your cover letter. It can work against you, and in many places, it's illegal for employers to ask about your family situation.

Due to the nature of the job, and the fact that Susan Anybody is a well known member of the Imaginary Family Resource Centre, she chose to include that information in this particular cover letter. She felt it would work to her advantage in this situation. She would not include this information in the majority of her cover letters.
