Why Conventional ?

I have seen a resume I have never seen before in my life. I was a teacher in charge in the English Department of a Government School in India.

A new department was to be opened for Spoken English, and since I was the departmental head of the school, I had to shortlist the resumes and select candidates to invite to interviews. The school authority had given me around 60 resumes out of which I had to choose 10. The post was for only 2 teachers.

I had chosen a candidate with an unusual type of resume; I believe anyone else would have rejected it with one glance.

I can't remember the exact words or the exact qualifications the man had mentioned there, but the format of the resume was unusual. The resume was written as a single paragraphs with no headings, spaces of bullet points. It was not easy to read.

In spite of the unusual resume, I did call the man for the interview. Unfortunately, he could not get through the interview as his spoken English, which was our prime requirement, was quite poor.

The resume was effective in that it caught my attention. I was very interested to meet a who had such temerity to write a resume for a job in this fashion. I had a long talk with the man even after I was convinced that he should not be selected for the post.
