The Importance of Goal Setting

I have learned over the years that if you want to get anything done, you must set a goal. It is important to make the goal reachable. One method to guarantee success is to break the goal down into smaller goals.

Be as specific as you possibly can. Write the goal down; several times if necessary and put it in a place that you can see it every day. This will help to keep you focused on the goal and it will keep you open to opportunities related to it.

Put up pictures of your goal. It is important to stay flexible and remember that it's okay to change your goal. Don't be surprized if a goal leads you in a different direction.

Whenever possible, surround yourself with people who support your dreams. Having a mentor is a great idea, especially one who has had success with goal setting. Read about successful people and the methods they used to reach their goals.

Celebrate every goal you reach as a special occasion. When you encounter failure in reaching a goal, remember to look back on your accomplishments, no matter how small. Use them to remind yourself that you are capable of achieving your dreams.
