Make Your Goal VISIBLE!

by Jess
(Missouri)

When I set out to succeed at something, I generally create a fun worksheet for myself. I like to follow a similar strategy described on this site, but I set small goals with specific dates that help me to reach my overall larger goal.

For example, I had the goal of running a half marathon recently. This was my overall goal. I begin by typing out my overall goal, and then the steps I need to take. My smaller steps where to set out a training plan, improve my lunch choices when I eat out, enter a 10k race and make sure to stretch every time I ran.

I then set dates to complete each step, and write out specific items to be accomplished to complete those steps.

For the step to find a training plan, I needed to search online, pick a plan, and write it out in my planner.

I like to put all the information on an attractive sheet of paper, including designs, colors, a place to make check marks, and inspirational quotes. The final touch is to add a short reminder of why I overall want to complete this goal. For the half marathon, it was because You Only Live Once! I can then hang the paper somewhere visible, not only to me, but also to others who can help keep me focused on my goal.
