Keep Your Composure in a Job Interview

I was applying as medical representative for a certain company when I qualified for the final interview with the area manager. After being told to sit, he looked over my resume again and at me, I was smiling politely but felt so nervous inside, he suddenly asked, "Do you take a shower everyday?"

I said "Pardon sir?"

He repeated the question.

Confused, bemused and bewildered, I answered "Yes sir but not when I have a fever".

He hired me right away. It was a crazy unexpected question which I didn't include when I rehearsed answering more rational questions before the interview. I think he wanted the effect of putting me off guard to see how I'd respond since the job I was applying for would deal with different people.

He admired my composure and decided he could trust that's why he gave me the job.

It's wise to prepare for anything that might be asked of you during an interview. I certainly wasn't but I was smart enough not to lose composure and respect the interviewer's question because being the one interviewed I have no say in what should and what should not be asked. Just be honest and answer with confidence and sincerity.
