Imagine An Awesome Outcome to Attain Goals

by Pat
(Merrimack, NH)

Having a clear picture in mind of an awesome outcome is essential for attaining goals. It is very easy to get bogged down in to-do lists. It is equally easy to be distracted from completing important things that are either mundane or unpleasurable in and of themselves. In the end, when energy for the project is dissipating, it can be very difficult to add finishing touches or do the clean-up that really gives completion pizzazz.

Here are three examples of keeping an awesome outcome in mind:

First, consider phoning new or follow-up business contacts. The person who sees this as drudgery will carry that vision in their tone an approach. The person who only views the task as completing a to-do list has no longer term understanding of the possibilities for the calls. What would be an awesome outcome for making contact? Completing a sale that is truly beneficial to the contact's business, impressing the contact by solving service needs, or assuring customers of the company's reliability in the midst of these difficult economic times could motivate a stronger, much more satisfying approach.

Second, perhaps the "awesome outcome" is more personal. Take the case of the commission sales person who has decided to set aside a percentage of all commissions to donate to a charitable project. Or completing the goals at hand could yield getting home earlier to spend time with children or to pursue a hobby.

Third, think in terms of art. There is nothing terribly exciting about each brush or pen stroke. Yet stroke by stroke the picture comes to life. What kind of painting is coming to life as goal by individual goal is achieved? And remember: artists who don't clean up their brushes and paints will have a dried up mess on their hands tomorrow when they come bursting into the studio with new ideas in their minds.
