Goals--realistic and otherwise

by Viva

I set specific goals for myself in all areas of my life, not just my career. I find it very helpful to write down a list of targets that I want to meet, as well as a timeline during which I can reasonably meet them. I also make sure to carve out time to work specifically on these goals without any distractions or any further procrastination. Things simply do not get done if we do not devote our attention and time to them.

It’s easy to go off and do something else. It’s also easy to talk about doing things as opposed to actually doing them. This is why we must have the self-discipline and motivation to work towards our objectives.

Ineffective goals are the unrealistic ones. Many of us think that just because we dream of something or aspire to it, we will eventually achieve it. However, not all of us can be successful at everything we take on. We need to be realistic and honest about our capabilities and our flaws too. A more effective goal is one that we actually have a chance of achieving. Otherwise, we can easily end up with disappointment, rejection, and failure because we have pursued a goal that we had little or no chance of reaching in the first place.
