Achieving Goals for Procrastinators

by Homa
(Dallas, Tx. USA)

I am a natural procrastinator and have learned to work successfully as such.

Once a month I write down all of my goals in a brainstorming manner. Then I break them down into immediate goals, short-term goals and long-term goals. I then assign a deadline (deadlines are important to procrastinators). I then write specific bullet points under each goal that indicate exactly what I need to do to achieve that goal.

I also make sure I have all the supplies I need so that at the last minute, I'm not stuck without printer ink or paper.

I also make a note of a reward I will earn when I accomplish a specific goal (the carrot on the stick method).

Then I leave my list alone for a day. When I go to review it, I weed out all the ones that are unrealistic or not of high concern and then I begin working on the immediate ones.

I like to have several things going at once so while I am working on accomplishing the immediate goals, I will also start work on some of the other longer-term goals.
